ProdataKey (PDK) has expanded its access control hardware lineup with the introduction of the High-Security Red™ Reader V2. Building on the foundation of the original Red Reader line, these new devices introduce upgraded performance, flexibility, and convenience for dealers and end users alike.

“The Red Reader V2 is the next gen evolution of our current Red Reader line — compatible with the full range of PDK credentials, while also adding faster reads, easier installs, and simpler SKU management,” explains Matt Shane, Senior Hardware Product Manager at PDK. These upgrades are intended to address practical challenges faced by installers in the field. Faster credential reads improve the user experience at entry points, reducing delays and helping facilities maintain smooth traffic flow.
While the first edition Red Readers are available in twelve SKUs, the Red Readers V2 come in a simplified four options — mullion, mullion keypad, single gang, single gang keypad — allowing dealers to reduce inventory complexity while still meeting a variety of customer needs.

By reducing the number of SKUs while improving functionality and installation flexibility, the Red Reader V2 lineup is designed to simplify deployment for integrators without sacrificing performance or security. The result is a more efficient and adaptable reader solution for modern access control environments.
New Form Factor: Mullion Keypad
One of the most notable additions with the Red Reader V2 lineup is the new mullion keypad form factor. Designed for flexibility, the compact keypad can be mounted on narrow mullion door frames or installed in a standard single gang location, making it adaptable for a wide variety of commercial applications.

“The mullion keypad is a form factor that our dealers have been requesting for a long time,” Matt explains. “It just gives the dealers an option to carry that keypad on the trucks if they need it, and it fits everywhere.” Two-factor authentication with PIN codes is an additional benefit of the mullion and singlegang keypad readers, providing an extra layer of security for organizations looking to strengthen access control without complicating the user experience. Combining credentials with keypad entry can help facilities better protect sensitive areas while maintaining operational convenience.
Simplified Installation with the Red Reader V2
In addition to expanded hardware options, PDK’s product development team also focused heavily on simplifying installation for integrators. The Red Reader V2 includes several physical design improvements intended to make mounting and servicing easier in challenging installation environments.

“The back plate is cast in aluminum instead of the molded or stamped out sheet steel you have on the V1, which gives you better rigidity on the wall.” Matt says. “We also changed the bottom lock screw from being perpendicular to the bottom of the case to a 45 degree angle. That makes it much easier to deal with if there’s a wainscoting, rock fascia, or something on the building right underneath it.” These design changes can make a significant difference for installers working in the field. Increased rigidity improves long-term durability and mounting stability, while the angled lock screw design allows technicians to work more efficiently in tight spaces or on uneven surfaces.
PDK Red Reader V2: The Next Step in Advanced Access Control
The Red Reader V2 demonstrates PDK’s continued focus on listening to dealer feedback and refining products to address real-world installation and operational challenges. By combining enhanced read speeds and additional form factors with a simplified installation experience, the new reader lineup positions itself as a versatile solution for modern access control deployments.
As organizations continue investing in secure and scalable building access systems, products like the Red Reader V2 highlight the growing importance of solutions that balance security, convenience, and ease of deployment for both integrators and end users.
