Securing Multi-Site Car Dealerships: A PDK Featured Install

When it comes to running multiple automotive dealerships, keeping resources, vehicles, and sensitive operational areas secure is no small task. From welcoming showrooms to late-night delivery areas, every door represents both opportunity and risk. Using PDK To Secure Critical Areas
Initially, securing the main entrance and exit doors was an immediate necessity for the various dealership locations in the area, as it would ensure that no customers or unauthorized personnel could enter the facilities outside of operating hours.
Following these main entry points, there were three other internal spaces that the automotive group deemed critical to secure:

Overnight Delivery Areas
The dealerships frequently receive important shipments outside of normal business hours, requiring controlled access without exposing the entire facility. “We set up an overnight delivery door that opens to a small area, and the dealership can just give out PIN codes to vendors to drop off parts after hours,” explained Jeff Goen, Project Manager at Allsafe Security. By limiting access to a designated delivery space, the dealerships can continue their 24/7 operations smoothly while maintaining security throughout the rest of the building.

Parts Department
As home to critical inventory and tools, the parts department for each car dealership required effective access control as well. “When people are driving cars around, they need to know that there haven’t been people messing with parts,” Jeff explained. By installing PDK readers at entrances to the parts department, Jeff and his team have ensured that only authorized dealership staff have access to the parts needed to refurbish, repair, and maintain their vehicles.

IT Rooms
Lastly, one of the most critical spaces to secure are IT rooms, where systems store sensitive customer information and support daily business operations. “It has been really important to make sure that IT staff were the only ones who could access the IT rooms, since lots of financial information and other important data goes through there,” Jeff added. With access restricted to only IT employees, PDK guarantees that critical information stays in the right hands at all times.
As their PDK systems came online, the impact was felt immediately by the dealership’s staff. “The PDK access control has been very important for staff at these locations, because now they can get some peace of mind knowing that those doors are closed and not anybody can just go in and out.” With a consistent access control strategy applied across every location, the dealership group established a secure foundation that supports daily operations, protects valuable assets, and scales seamlessly as new facilities are added.
The Value of Remote Management
Beyond securing physical doors, the ability to manage access remotely became one of the most valuable features of the ProdataKey system. With dealerships spread across a large metropolitan area, on-site management was not always practical. “Austin’s a pretty big place, and some of these dealerships are 20 to 30 minutes away from each other,” says Jeff. In the event that someone misplaced their key fob or forgot their PIN, the remote capabilities of the PDK Access application have been instrumental to maintaining daily operations for these dealerships. “The fact that they can get on their phone and unlock a door for somebody if needed is so important.” In a fast-paced dealership environment, that kind of responsiveness makes a meaningful difference day-to-day.

But remote management hasn’t been a huge asset for the end-users alone—it’s become a critical aspect of operations for Allsafe Security as well, according to Jeff: “For me to be able to get on my phone and see what’s going on with the system is the greatest thing. I can know exactly what’s going on with the system without having to send somebody out there.” This visibility allows both the dealership group and Allsafe Security to respond quickly to issues and keep operations running smoothly—all without rolling a truck.
