Units: PDK’s Newest Feature for Residential Security Management

Residential properties, especially multi-family communities, are inherently complex. Managing tenant turnover, assigning access, and maintaining security across multiple doors can quickly become overwhelming without the right system in place.
That’s exactly the challenge ProdataKey (PDK) set out to solve with the brand new Units feature in PDK.io. Designed to transform how residential spaces are secured and controlled, Units brings a brand new management experience to the multi-family industry. And paired with new hardware innovations like the Red™ Wireless Locksets, Units represents a major step forward in bringing top-tier access control into everyday living environments.
What is the Units Feature in PDK.io?
Units is a brand tool within PDK.io that allows Admins and Managers to easily categorize apartments, units, condos, rooms, and more into individually manageable entities. Once toggled in System Settings, Units appears as a brand new tab on the PDK.io Customer Dashboard. From this tab, Admins and Managers will enter a brand new page entirely dedicated to managing residential access.
Instead of dealing with scattered permissions and fragmented systems, property managers can now structure everything by Unit, simplifying how access is assigned and maintained. Individual users and devices can be added to a Unit with customized move-in and move-out dates. This makes it easier than ever to track the occupancy of a Unit, and automate key processes such as removing a User from their Unit once their lease has expired. Once created, Units will also show up as a Custom Field in a User’s profile — showing which units they are in, whether the unit is currently occupied, and providing a hot link to make any changes necessary to the unit.

By reducing friction in day-to-day management, Units not only saves time but also improves accuracy and security across residential properties.
Empowering the Tenant
The Units feature not only introduces a brand new management experience for system Admins and Managers — it also allows for a never-before-seen level of end-user control.
“Just think: you’ve installed a Red Lock on a residential door and programmed your Unit. What’s next? Let’s look at the person who lives behind that door, and what management capabilities they might want,” Couper explains. Once Units have been configured by an Admin or Manager, system end-users will be able to access a variety of management tools within the PDK Access app.
Within the PDK Access app, Users will now see a section called ‘My Doors’ with all locks that have been assigned to them. By selecting the history button directly above the locks, a full audit trail will be made available, adjustable by date, user, event type, and more. This makes it a very straightforward process for tenants to track who has accessed, or attempted to access, their living space.
By swiping left over the top of a lock, Users can access further management settings, such as scheduling and auto-locking capabilities, battery health push notifications, and Door Event notifications. Additionally, the PDK Access app will also reflect the current battery remaining on the residential lock, allowing Users to have complete visibility over the health and functionality of their device(s).
